Two men and two women were charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Minneapolis man in October, 2016. Three of the defendants also have been charged in a November killing in Shakopee, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced.
Brandy Jaques, 40, Derrick Smith, 28, Tyrel Patterson, 27, all of Minneapolis and Ayan Wahab, 22, of Blaine were charged in the shooting death of Richard Ambers. The 31-year-old Minneapolis man was found shot to death at 5 am on October 29, 2016.
In addition, Jacques, Smith and Patterson were charged in the murder of James Herron, 42, in his Shakopee home on November 23, 2016. According to the criminal complaint, Herron was a drug dealer that the trio was robbing when they shot him to death.
In the Ambers murder, Wahab was at a SuperAmerica station with Smith and Patterson in the early morning of October 29, 2016. Ambers was there, too, trying to sell marijuana. Smith told Wahab to befriend Ambers and find out more about the money and drugs so they could rob him, according to the criminal complaint.
Eventually Ambers and Wahab drove to Jaques home and parked near it at 48th and Bryant Avenues North in Minneapolis. Wahab went into Jaques home and discussed with Smith and Jaques how to rob Ambers. Wahab then went back to the car and sat with Ambers for a few minutes until Patterson rapped on the vehicle’s window. Wahab left the car and soon heard three gunshots, the complaint states.
